SML librarian featured in a national publication

Ariel Stewart
West Shreveport Branch Manager Ariel Stewart is featured in a new book titled This Is What a Librarian Looks Like by photographer Kyle Cassidy. Published in May of this year, the book highlights the essential services libraries provide and the many diverse faces of people in the profession.

This Is What a Librarian Looks Like is a photographic and written ode to more than 200 librarians and libraries from all over the country and Canada. Stewart was asked to pose for the book by Cassidy during the American Library Association (ALA) Conference in Las Vegas in 2014. She said it was an honor to be included in the book.

"I was excited to be a part of a project that shines a light on what librarians do for their communities every day," Stewart said.

Stewart is the Branch Manager at West Shreveport Branch, located at 4380 Pines Road. She has worked for Shreve Memorial Library for 11 years, including positions at the Main Branch and Cedar Grove/Line Ave. Branch.

This Is What A Librarian Looks Like also includes thoughts from some of the most beloved writers, journalists, and commentators about how libraries have influenced their profession, protected and promoted their work, and served their own communities, including contributions from Neil Gaiman, George R.R. Martin, Nancy Pearl, Cory Doctorow, Paula Poundstone, Amanda Palmer, Peter Sagal, Jeff VanderMeer, John Scalzi, Sara Farizan, Amy Dickinson, and others.
