Can't find it? Let the Interlibrary Loans Department assist you in a nationwide search.
Please do not place interlibrary loan requests for items owned by Shreve Memorial Library. Unsure? Check iBistro, the library's catalog.
WHAT IS INTERLIBRARY LOAN?
Interlibrary loan is a borrowing and lending network between libraries. This allows Shreve Memorial Library patrons to borrow copies of materials not found in the system. It also allows other libraries to borrow Shreve Memorial materials.
HOW CAN I PLACE MY OWN INTERLIBRARY LOAN REQUEST?
First you’ll need a Loanshark account. If you’ve used Loanshark in the past, it’s possible that an account has already been created for you. If so, your Username is your first and last name (all together with no spaces in between) and your PIN is the last seven digits of your library card barcode. If not, just let your local branch library know you’d like an account set up, and they’ll create one.
Go to http://la.library.net. Make sure your web browser will allow popups from this site. Login using g1sh as the Library code and your Username and PIN as specified above.
Search for the item you’d like to request. If the item you want appears in the hit list, click on its title. In the new window that opens up, first verify that Shreve Memorial is not one of the locations listed at the bottom, then click the Request This Item button. This should open up yet another new window that has your request already filled in. Check to be sure the preferences and information are correct, then click Submit.
If your search does not result in the item you're looking for, click the Blank Request button. Please fill out as much of this form as possible, including ISBN. Title and author are often insufficient information to make a match.
HOW CAN I CHECK THE STATUS OF THE INTERLIBRARY LOAN REQUEST I'VE PLACED?
Go to http://la.library.net. Make sure your web browser will allow popups from this site. Login using g1sh as the Library code and your Username and PIN as specified above.
Click on Patron Menu, the ILL Request Tracking. A new set of login fields will appear, probably already filled in. You can just click Submit to verify your information. A list of your ILL requests and their current statuses will appear in a popup window.
WHO CAN USE INTERLIBRARY BORROWING?
All Shreve Memorial Library patrons except those holding temporary borrowing privileges. Greengold card holders are considered patrons of their home library system. If you would like more information on becoming a Shreve Memorial Library patron, please click here.
WHAT CAN BE BORROWED?
A loan or copy of any kind of library material may be requested through interlibrary borrowing. Some requests may not be filled at the discretion of either Shreve Memorial Library or the owning library. In general, items published in the last six months are not available for interlibrary borrowing, and audio-visual materials are more difficult to obtain than printed ones.
WILL THERE BE ANY FEES? HOW MUCH WILL IT COST ME?
Interlibrary loan service is generally free. In a few rare cases, a library might charge a processing fee to loan the book or make a photocopy. It is suggested that if you request a “non-returnable” item (like a copy of a magazine article) that you fill in $5.00 as the maximum you are willing to pay. Not filling in this field at all on a non-returnable item will result in your request being rejected.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?
Interlibrary borrowing service can take up to 2-6 weeks.
HOW MANY REQUESTS CAN I SUBMIT AT ONCE?
A Shreve Memorial Library patron can submit up to 10 requests at one time.
Interlibrary borrowing is a library-to-library transaction. An individual's direct request to borrow from another library will not be honored, except where reciprocal borrowing agreements exist.
