What is Pokémon Go?
Pokémon Go was just released last week, but it is already one of the most popular apps in the United States. It is an augmented reality game that users download to their smartphones. Users play on their device and in the real world by visiting different areas and capturing Pokémon. The game uses GPS on your smartphone to recognize where you are when you are playing.
Pokémon trainers can travel to Pokéstops, where they collect supplies, or Gyms, where they can level up and compete. The game is similar to geocaching. You have to walk or ride to different areas in order to find all of the Pokémon. Many players are exploring places in their cities and towns where they have never been before!

How is Pokémon Go Related to the Library?
Because libraries are public places with free WiFi, they make awesome spots to go and search out some Pokémon. Many of our libraries are Gyms or PokéStops!
So come visit a branch of the library and see what Pokémon you can find! While you are there, make sure you get a library card, borrow some items, or attend a program or two. The following list lets you know what branches of our libraries are Gyms or PokéStops. We'll be adding to the list as we find out more information. Good luck and we hope you catch them all!
Gyms
- Blanchard Branch (Level 3)
- Broadmoor Branch (Level 2)
- Hollywood/Union Avenue Branch (Level 5)
- Mooringsport Branch
PokéStops

Also, Youth Services at Broadmoor Branch has put together a map of the Shreveport area with Gyms and Pokéstops. This may be useful for the intense players! Gyms are marked in red, while Pokéstops are marked in purple. Rare Pokémon sightings are blue stars.
