MLA Showcase Lecture: Sentiment Contagion on Twitter

Monday, April 22, 2019

Dr. Claire Joa earned her Ph.D. from Bowling Green State University in 2017, with specialization in Social Media & Big Data Analytics. Before joining Louisiana State University Shreveport as an assistant professor of Mass Communication, she worked as a senior researcher in the Big Data Analysis Sector of the Media Convergence Research company in Seoul, South Korea. Her primary research interests focus on understanding information flow using innovative research methods including social media sentiment analysis and network analysis.

How do legacy media and nontraditional media interact with each other and lead public sentiment in social media? This lecture will introduce findings from Dr Joa’s recent study about sentiment contagion examined across the media tweet network of the 2016 U.S. presidential election.
