Shreve Memorial Library’s “Oceans of Possibilities” Summer Reading Program kicked off on Wednesday, June 1. All summer-long, the library has a variety of ocean-themed programs and performances to keep library patrons of all ages entertained. Additionally, the North Shreveport and Broadmoor Branches have added escape room programs to offer patrons a more challenging and engaging experience. Escape rooms challenge participants to complete a series of puzzles within a certain amount of time in order to unlock the room and escape. Participation in library escape room challenges are free and open to the public, however registration is required to attend.
From Monday, June 6 through Saturday, June 11, the North Shreveport Branch, located at 4844 North Market Street, will host the “Bermuda Triangle Escape Room” challenge for library patrons ages 8 and up. The Bermuda Triangle is a vortex of mystery and intrigue. Library patrons are invited to solve its mysteries with their friends. Those interested in solving the mystery can register for the escape room by calling the North Shreveport Branch at (318) 674-8172 or by visiting the branch and signing up in person. Space is limited. Beginning on Monday, June 13, the Broadmoor Branch, located at 1212 Captain Shreve Drive, will host an escape room challenge entitled “Escape from Davy Jones’ Locker.” The pirate-themed escape room is designed for groups of 2 to 6 persons and is appropriate for those ages 12 and up. Younger patrons may participate with adult supervision. Participants will have up to 1 hour to escape the room. “Escape from Davy Jones’ Locker” will be available Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. beginning Monday, June 13 and ending on Thursday, July 14. Space is limited for the escape room, and registration is required. Those interested in participating must register as a group by calling (318) 869-0120 to reserve their spots. When registering, participants will have two weeks of dates to select from and reserve a time slot.
“Oceans of Possibilities” is open to all ages, and patrons can participate by logging books online and attending a large variety of interactive, live programs at their favorite Shreve Memorial Library branch. Children, age birth to 10, are encouraged to read five books over the summer, teens age 11 to 17 are asked to read at least three books, and adults are tasked with reading two books. As patrons log books online, they will receive digital badges for each book read. Those who complete the 2022 Summer Reading Program challenge will receive prizes to include drawstring bags, books, pencils and other assorted promotional items.
