Shreve Memorial Library Celebrates Library Card Sign-up Month in September

Library card sign up month

September is Library Card Sign-up Month, a time when Shreve Memorial Library joins the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries nationwide to remind parents, caregivers, and students that signing up for a library card is the first step on the path to academic achievement and lifelong learning.

This year’s ALA honorary chairs are Tony Award-winning performer, singer-songwriter, actor, and philanthropist Idina Menzel and her sister, author, and educator, Cara Mentzel.  Idina and Cara will join the American Library Association (ALA), Shreve Memorial Library, and libraries nationwide in encouraging everyone to get a library card and explore all the library has to offer. During the month, the sisters will debut their first picture book, Loud Mouse. The book is about a little mouse named Dee who loves to sing very loudly.  The picture book is an inspiring tale of finding and embracing your voice.

Throughout the month of September, Shreve Memorial Library will offer free library card replacement for those who have lost their library cards. In addition, parents and caregivers whose library card accounts are blocked may register for cards for their children.

With a Shreve Memorial Library card, patrons gain free access to books, eBooks, DVDs, technology, media resources, educational programs, homework help, and much more. A library card gives students the tools to succeed in the classroom and provides people of all ages opportunities to pursue their dreams and passions. Libraries nationwide offer everything from early literacy programs to virtual homework help and GED/HiSET classes, helping transform lives and communities through education.  Shreve Memorial Library has a wide variety of educational resources available through online databases, all afforded with a library card.
Shreve Memorial Library continues to adapt and expand services to meet the evolving needs of the community and is excited to offer library cardholders the ability to renew their library card privileges both online and in person. The online card renewal service is available for adult, juvenile, and YA library card types.
