Our Summer Reading Program sign-up will start on Monday, May 21. Visit your local branch, and register for this year’s Summer Reading Program or register online on Beanstack. The program is divided into children, teens, and adults. Read with us this summer and attend awesome programs because Libraries Rock! Summer Reading starts on Monday, June 4 and continues until Tuesday, July 31.
Featured performers for this year’s Children’s Summer Reading Program will include Little You Yoga, Hampstead Stage Company, Marshall Mitchell’s Cowboy Music for Kids, Miss Aimee the Balloon Lady, Lady Chops, Shreveport Hoop Group, Kindersongs and Walter B. Jacobs Memorial Nature Park.
When children sign up for the Summer Reading Program, they will receive a goody bag with a bookmark, book log and promotional items. All children will be required to read 5 books this summer, or have 5 books read to them (for early/learning readers). You can track the books children read in Beanstack once the program goes live on May 21. Children who finish the program will receive a certificate and a bag with a book, sticker, and temporary tattoo.

Featured programs for this year’s Teen Summer Reading Program will be an Interactive Makey Makey Music program, Learn to Play the Ukulele, an Interactive Guitar Program with Stephanie Jackson, and Art with a Twist with Eric Francis. These programs will take place at branches throughout Caddo Parish — check out the schedule to see when the activities will be at your branch!
Teens who sign up for the Summer Reading Program will receive a goody bag with a bookmark, book log and promotional items. To finish the program, teens (11-17) will have to read three books and log them in Beanstack. Teens who complete the program will receive a ticket to a special teen-only event this summer and a book.

Adults can also sign up for Summer Reading, and they will receive a goody bag with a bookmark, book log and promotional items. Adults can read and log books this summer to earn book bucks, which can be used to cover library fines. If you read two books, you will receive one book buck. Adults will receive an additional book buck for each book they finish after the first two. However, they may only receive a maximum of five book bucks.
We will also have fun programs for adults this summer, including I Like Bread & Butter Biscuit Making, Local Music Trivia, and Autobiography of a Musician Book Talks on Bruce Springsteen, Questlove, and Patti Smith.
