Each year, our One Book One Parish campaign unites Caddo Parish by promoting one book title throughout Shreve Memorial Library’s 21 branches during the month of October. The public was given an opportunity to select this year’s title from August 1 to August 15, and the winning title is Sing, Unburied, Sing by Jesmyn Ward.
With a total of 220 votes, Sing, Unburied, Sing beat out Gates of Evangeline by Hester Young (174 votes) and The Silence of Bonaventure Arrow by Rita Leganski (125 votes) for the 2018 One Book One Parish title.
Sing, Unburied, Sing is an intimate portrait of a family and an epic tale of hope and struggle. The book examines the ugly truths at the heart of the American story and the power and limitations of family bonds. It follows a family on a road trip that explores a painful past and the deep effects of racism and injustice.
If you want to get reading ahead of time, we have the book available as a print book, large print, e-book, and audiobook.
Programming for One Book One Parish takes place throughout the month of October. One Book One Parish encourages adults to read and join a parish-wide conversation about one particular book. Special programming related to the selected title is held at all 21 Shreve Memorial Library branches and ranges to book club discussion, special displays, and interactive programs related to the book title. We will be posting information soon about upcoming programs related to the One Book One Parish title.
