Get cooking at our Main Branch!

Cooking classes at Main

We have a large assortment of cookbooks and food magazines to inspire and assist at-home chefs to prepare delicious meals, but did you know that you can also learn to cook at the library? Our Main Branch in downtown Shreveport is offering a chance for cooks of all skill levels to learn baking basics.

Instruction in how to make homemade biscuits, pizza dough, pie crust, and dinner rolls from scratch are just a few of the classes offered at the branch. Cooking classes are free and open to adults over the age of 18.

Because these classes are wildly popular and seating is limited, registration is required. Ingredients are supplied by the library branch, and registered attendees are asked to bring a large mixing bowl, spoon and apron to class. Please note that all of these classes are full as of 9/17/2018, and we are no longer accepting registrations.

Classes are held on select Saturdays from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Main Branch, located at 424 Texas Street. Upcoming classes include:

  • Deep Dish Pizza Dough Class – Saturday, September 22 (Registration closed; class is full)
  • No Knead Dinner Roll Class – Saturday, October 20 (Registration closed; class is full)
  • Pie Crust Class – Saturday, December 1* (Registration closed; class is full)

*Registered attendees will need to bring a pie plate, rolling pin and apron.
