We’re excited to host a variety of upcoming author visits at our libraries! Come and hear a new children’s book by a local firefighter, explore emotions in a new book of poetry, learn about the intersection between science and Christianity, and go back in time with family members of Crazy Horse. All of these events are free and open to the public.
On Monday, November 12 at 4 p.m., our Broadmoor Branch will host Adam MacDaniels, author of the children’s book Hotshot Bernie. MacDaniels is a professional firefighter/paramedic with a passion for writing. His works range from picture books to young adult books that are wholesome and family-friendly. During the program, MacDaniels will read his book followed by a crafts and activities session. The event will take place in the meeting room at the branch. Children are invited to participate. Our Hamilton/ South Caddo Branch presents local author Tiffany Pennywell on Friday, November 16 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Pennywell will launch her latest work, Face and Embrace Yourself, a book of poetry. Pennywell is a Louisiana-born artist and has been writing since 1996. She enjoys writing poetry, short stories, lyrics, screenplays, and fan-fiction. Face and Embrace Yourself focuses on the full range of human emotion and why we should embrace those feelings, no matter how uplifting or destructive. Adults are encouraged to attend the program. Join us at our North Shreveport Branch as we present Dr. Mack Crayton and his book, Brain, Mind, Soul and Spirit: The Interface Between Science and Scripture. Dr. Crayton will share his perspective as a Christian and a scientist. The program will take place on Saturday, November 17 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the branch meeting room. Go back in history as Crazy Horse Family Elder Floyd Clown recounts his tales and memories of his famous grandfather, Crazy Horse, the Lakota war leader. Floyd Clown and author William Matson will present a book signing for Crazy Horse: The Lakota Warrior’s Life and Legacy, based on Crazy Horse’s family’s oral history. The event will take place at our Main Branch on December 1 from 10 a.m. to noon. Clown and Matson will discuss and sign copies of the book, available for purchase for $13.28.
