Travel the world and learn about new cultures during our new reading challenge

Read Around the World Reading Challenge

Beginning March 1, 2019 through March 1, 2020, children ages 6-10 can sign up for the Read Around the World reading challenge at the library. The goal of the program is for children to read books that broaden their view of other cultures and places.

Parents can register their child online on Beanstack or visit a branch of the library to sign up. Registration for the challenge will start on Friday, March 1.

When a child registers, they will receive a “Frequent Reader Card” at the library. At the branch, we will write down the reader’s name and age. As children log books in Beanstack, they will receive free treats from the Dairy Queen on Mansfield Rd. in Shreveport.

You can use our Beanstack site to log your own books. If you want help learning to use Beanstack, check out this tutorial or visit a library for assistance.

Children will receive treats at the following reading milestones:

  • 10 books read – small cone
  • 25 books read – dilly bar
  • 75 books read – small sundae
  • 100 books read – small blizzard

Each time your child meets a goal, bring their card to the library to get a stamp. Your library branch will sign and date your card each time. We will also have more details soon about prizes for participants in the northern part of Caddo Parish. Thank you to Fourteen Foods for helping to sponsor this program for our readers.
