Shreve Memorial Library pairs coffee with books

Join us for programs that pair coffee and books

We are inviting coffee lovers to visit the library for programs that pair great books with a hot cup of coffee. Programs at the library pair coffee with demonstrations, book clubs, crafting and coloring. All programs are free and open to the public, and the coffee is on the house.

On Thursday, March 14, the Hamilton/South Caddo Branch will host a coffee demonstration with Lyons’ Pride Coffee. Owner of Lyons’ Pride Coffee, Peter Lyons, will lead a fun and educational demonstration covering the science behind brewing. Lyons’ Pride Coffee is a Shreveport coffee roaster specializing in quality specialty coffee and education. The demonstration will take place from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the reading room of the Hamilton/South Caddo Branch, located at 2111 Bert Kouns Industrial Loop. Coffee samples will be provided. RSVP to the Facebook Event.

Lovers of coffee and mystery are invited to join the Broadmoor Branch’s Grounds for Murder Book Club. The book club meets monthly combining coffee varieties with murder mystery books. The next meeting of the book club is Tuesday, March 19 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. or Wednesday, March 20 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for those not able to make the Tuesday meeting. Meetings of the Grounds for Murder Book Club are held at the Broadmoor Branch, located at 1212 Captain Shreve Drive. Join the group for coffee and stay to unravel the mystery.

Additionally, many of our part-time branches host weekly coffee time programs. Coffee time programs are perfect opportunities for patrons to meet neighbors, share stories, enjoy a cup of coffee and check out new books. The Rodessa Branch, 10093 Main Street in Rodessa, hosts Coffee and Books each Thursday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., while the Means Branch, 7016 E. Magnolia Lane in Ida, hosts Coffee Time each Friday from 12:15 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. The Higginbotham-Bryson Branch will also host a special Coffee and Conversation program on Monday, March 18 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the branch located at 9359 Greenwood Road in Greenwood.

Coffee also pairs nicely with crafting and coloring. The Main Branch, 424 Texas Street, invites seniors to Coffee and Crafts on Friday, March 15 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Seniors will be able to enjoy a fresh cup of coffee while crafting. All craft supplies and coffee are provided. Adults are also invited to visit the David Raines Branch each Monday from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for Coffee and Coloring Club. Enjoy adult coloring, hot coffee and great conversation at the branch located at 2855 Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive. The Blanchard Branch also hosts Adult Coffee and Coloring on the last Friday of each month from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The next Adult Coffee and Coloring program will be Friday, March 29 at the branch located at 344 Alexander Street in Blanchard.
