We are cooking this spring at the library by hosting recipe swaps and baking classes. Programs invite patrons to share recipes, learn cooking tips, and try their hand at baking. Food lovers are invited to visit the North Caddo Branch in Vivian and the Main Branch in downtown Shreveport to take part in these classes. Classes are free and open to the public.
On Saturday, March 23, patrons of the North Caddo Branch are invited to discover the secrets of Southern cooking at “Cooking with Ms. Rose.” Ms. Rose will share some of her favorite recipes and provide useful cooking tips. The program will take place from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the North Caddo Branch, located at 615 North Pine Street. The program is free and open to the public. Registration is not required to attend “Cooking with Ms. Rose.” RSVP to the Facebook event.
Our Main Branch, located at 424 Texas Street in downtown Shreveport, continues to offer hands-on baking classes. The classes provide an opportunity for bakers of all skill levels to learn new tricks and practice making an assortment of baked goods including cinnamon rolls, homemade biscuits, and homemade bread. Ingredients are supplied by the branch, and registered attendees are asked to bring a large mixing bowl, wooden spoon, and apron to class. The classes are open to adults age 18 and older. Because these classes are wildly popular and seating is limited, registration is required. Register by calling the branch at 318-226-5897.
In addition to these programs, our branches throughout Caddo Parish offer an assortment of cookbooks and cooking periodicals available for checkout.
