Read more by listening to audiobooks

Borrow audiobooks to read on the go

Audiobooks are a great way to sneak reading into your busy schedule. We have plenty of options for you to read on the go with our audiobooks selection. Read on to learn about the formats we have for you to borrow so you can meet your learning goals.

Audiobooks can help you read on the move — whether during your daily commute, a road trip, your exercise routine, or lunch break. With your Shreve Memorial Library card, you have a variety of options to borrow audiobooks to listen to. We have audiobook CDs available at the library, but we also have other formats so that you don’t even have to visit us to borrow an audiobook.

Libby and Overdrive

Our Overdrive collection contains a large selection of audiobooks available for you to listen on your smartphone or tablet. You can browse the audiobooks available here: https://greengoldlibraries.overdrive.com/greengoldlibraries-shreve/content/collections/featured/2

Libby is the newest app available from Overdrive, and it is the easiest way to get started listening to audiobooks. Download the Libby app for your iOS or Android device and then open the app to get started. You will need to choose Shreve Memorial Library (Green Gold Consortium) as your library and then enter your library card number and PIN to get started. If you don’t know your PIN, please call a branch of Shreve Memorial Library and we can help you get your PIN.

With Overdrive, you can borrow five items at a time and have 10 items on hold. If somebody else has an item borrowed, you will have to place a hold on it. Items borrowed from Overdrive will automatically return to the library after two weeks. There are no late fees.

Need help? They have an awesome help page to answer your questions: https://help.overdrive.com/

Hoopla

Another app to use to listen to audiobooks is Hoopla. You can download Hoopla onto your iOS, Android, or Kindle Fire HD device and borrow 10 items a month using this service. Hoopla has a large selection of audiobooks that you can browse through here: https://www.hoopladigital.com/browse/audiobook/

With Hoopla, you borrow audiobooks for 21 days and they will automatically return to the library. There are no late fees.

You do not have to worry about placing holds on items in Hoopla. You can borrow items without restrictions until you reach your limit of 10 items a month. Once you reach that limit, you will not be able to borrow any more until the start of the next month. Setting up an account with Hoopla is easy. You will have to enter an email address and password, along with your library card number and PIN. Once your account is set up, you log in with your email address and password.

Playaway devices

And last but not least, we have these great devices called Playaways. You can borrow these plug-and-play devices at any branch of Shreve Memorial Library. Playaways are small and fit into the palm of your hand, and they contain an entire audiobook. All you will need to do is put in batteries and plug in headphones to listen. If you love audiobooks, we recommend that you ask about Playaways at your local branch. You can borrow Playaways for two weeks. There is a $1 late fee for each day they are returned late.

You can see a list of Playaways available in our catalog here: https://srve.ent.sirsi.net/client/en_US/default/search/results?qu=playaway&qf=SUBJECT%09Subject%09Playaways.%09Playaways.&te=ILS
