Explore a Universe of Stories at your library

Reading is out of this world! We’re taking you on a space adventure this summer during our Summer Reading Program, “A Universe of Stories.” Registration for the program starts on Tuesday, May 28.  Register on our Beanstack site or at your local branch.

To earn prizes this year, you will be required to finish the following number of books:

  • Children (Read-to-me and readers) – 5 books
  • Teens (11-17) – 3 books
  • Adults (18 and up ) – 2 books

The “Universe of Stories” Summer Reading Program is open to all ages, and patrons can participate at all 21 Shreve Memorial Library branches and through the Mobile Library. Children, age birth to 10, are encouraged to read five books over the summer, teens age 11 to 17 are asked to read at least three books, and adults are tasked with reading two books. Those who complete the 2019 Summer Reading Program mission by Wednesday, July 31, will receive an assortment of prizes including coupons and discounted admissions to a variety of local attractions, including CC’s Coffee House, Dairy Queen, Dillas Quesadillas, Happy Belly’s Italian Ice Factory, Jubilee Zoo, Pop N Pizza, Red Herring Escape Rooms, Robinson Film Center, Shreve Memorial Library Friends Book Sale, and Shreveport Aquarium. Participants can begin logging books on Monday, June 3.

The Summer Reading Program will go from June 3 until July 31. The program helps to encourage local children and adults to read over the summer and learn something new. 

Summer Reading also means a ton of fun programs and activities at the library for children, teens, and adults. This summer we will have painting programs with mixed media art and watercolor, yoga, robotics, digital space games, coding, rocket building and more. Performers this summer include the Shreveport Hoop Group, Dat Does the Trick, Walter B. Jacobs Memorial Nature Park, Michelle’s Magical Poodles, Sciencetellers, Professor Universe, and Hampstead Stage Company.
