Library branches host Fire Safety Programs

Fire Safety

It’s summer time, and with that comes outside barbecues, fireworks and other activities that might cause a fire. We have teamed up with Caddo Fire District One and Shreveport Fire Department to present two fire safety workshops in June. No registration is required, and both programs are free and open to the public.

Our Blanchard Branch and firefighters with Caddo Fire District One will present a fire safety workshop on Wednesday, June 5, teaching children and reminding adults about fire safety. Firefighters will also have a fire truck on display and demonstrate how the fire truck operates. The workshop will take place from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Blanchard Town Hall, located at 110 N. Main Street in Blanchard.

On Thursday, June 27, Shreveport Fire Department will visit our Atkins Branch to teach children all about fire safety. Emergency responders will instruct children on who to contact in case of a fire emergency and the types of fire extinguishers to use to put out different types of fires.

The workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to noon in the meeting room at the branch.

Fire responders offer this advice to all:

  • Install smoke alarms on every level of your home, inside bedrooms and outside sleeping areas.
  • Test smoke alarms every month.
  • Talk with all family members about a fire escape plan and practice the plan twice a year.
  • If a fire occurs in your home, GET OUT, STAY OUT and CALL FOR HELP.
