Make a difference in young readers’ lives by becoming a literacy volunteer for Step Forward! Step Forward will host two volunteer orientations at our library branches this July. Join us at the Hamilton/South Caddo Branch on Thursday, July 18 at 2 p.m. or Broadmoor Branch on Tuesday, July 23 at 2 p.m. to learn more about the program.
During the 2018-19 school year, nearly 500 students in Northwest Louisiana sat down for an hour each week with a literacy volunteer to strengthen their reading skills. The program resulted in 160 literacy volunteers making an impact in 29 schools. With new schools joining the program for the 2019-2020 school year, Step Forward is actively seeking new volunteers.
“The children I worked with were all so eager to read and learn which made the entire experience very rewarding,” said Central Park Elementary Literacy Volunteer Araceli Bateman. “One person can make a difference.”
