Get ready to go back to school at your library

Back to School at SML

Visit your library to learn how we can help you make this the best school year yet! Branches throughout Caddo Parish are planning fun back-to-school events to celebrate the end of summer and help you prepare for the school year ahead.

Children and teens can enjoy DIY school supply and craft programs, meet their peers at movie nights and back-to-school bashes, and learn about the resources provided by Shreve Memorial Library to assist with homework, research projects, and studying.

Beginning Thursday, August 8, children and teens can visit several branches to customize and create school supplies to prepare for the upcoming school year. Participants will be able to add their personal flair to do-it-yourself (DIY) bookmarks, notebook covers, pencil pouches, nametags, pencil toppers, keychains, locker magnets and more. Back to School Resources

We also want to remind students to take advantage of the many resources available to help with schoolwork, research projects, and testing at the library. All Caddo Parish Public School students are able to access Shreve Memorial Library services using their Virtual Student Library Card. The Virtual Student Library Card program is a partnership with Caddo Parish Public Schools that allows students to check out up to two books or DVDs at any given time and access online resources using only their student ID.

Each of our 21 branches offer free Wi-Fi and computers equipped with internet access and standard programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, for public use. Those looking for a quiet place to study or work on a group project can reserve study rooms at the Atkins, Broadmoor, Cedar Grove/Line Avenue, Hamilton/South Caddo, Hollywood/Union Avenue, Main and West Shreveport branches. Find out more here.

Patrons are also able to access a vast amount of online resources. Homework Louisiana offers free online one-on-one tutoring for students of all ages Sundays through Thursdays from 2 p.m. to midnight and help with math, science, language arts, test prep and writing assignments. Students interested in learning a new language can explore Pronunciator, an online program that offers instruction in 80 different languages.
