Borrow comics at the library or online with your library card

Yes You Can - Read Comics

Catch up on your favorite superheroes using your library card! Visit your local branch to read single issues of comics or borrow graphic novel collections. We also have a huge collection of graphic novels and comics available online on Hoopla Digital and Overdrive.

You can search for graphic novels and comics you can borrow in your catalog here:

Also, ask at your local branch and a librarian will help you find the comics available at that library branch. Most of our branches have a comics section where you can find all the comics and graphic novels available. You might not be able to borrow individual issues, but graphic novels and comics collections are available to borrow.

If you are interested in borrowing comics online, you will need know how to use Hoopla and Overdrive. Hoopla is an app available for smartphones and tablets, but you can also access it using your laptop or desktop. Hoopla has all sorts of comic books available, and you can browse the entire collection here:

Recent popular comics on Hoopla include Umbrella AcademyCaptain MarvelThe Walking Dead, and Superman. The selection constantly changes on Hoopla Digital, which is great because you can check out 10 items there a month.

When you borrow comics and graphic novels from Hoopla, you will have them for 21 days, and you can download them for offline reading on smartphones or tablets. The items will automatically return after 21 days and there are no late fees.

Setting up a Hoopla account is easy. All you will need is your library card and PIN to get started. Click on “Get Started Today” on and enter in the needed information.

You may know Overdrive as the spot to borrow e-books and audiobooks, but we also have comics and graphic novels available there. Borrow these comics on a computer or using the Libby app on a smartphone or tablet. To sign into Libby, you will need to choose Shreve Memorial Library as your library and then enter your library card number and PIN. You can also borrow many of these comics and graphic novels for Kindles and other types of e-readers.

Check out this page to see a list of new comics and graphic novels on Overdrive:

When you borrow comics from Overdrive, they will automatically return after two weeks and there are no late fees. Overdrive has a great help page available if you encounter any problems in accessing this service:

There are also comics and graphic novels available in the TumbleBook Library and TumbleBook Cloud. You can access these on our State Library Database page. Visit that page and sign in with your library card number.  You will see those two resources under “State Library Databases” on the right-hand side of the page.
