What’s the secret to success at school? Using your library! With your Shreve Memorial Library card, you can access tutoring and study resources online or in the library. Read on to find out about Homework Louisiana, Learning Express, Lynda.com and more resources to help you learn and study for school.
Homework Louisiana provides free one-on-one tutoring, whether you are in kindergarten or college. Live tutors are available Sunday through Thursday from 2 p.m. to midnight and can help students of all ages. There is also help available for adults through the Adult Education and Career Center on Sunday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to midnight.
Students can access one-on-one help through the State Library Database page: http://lalibcon.state.lib.la.us/
Log in there with your library card number and then search for Homework Louisiana on the right-hand side under “Statewide Databases.”
Students get more features on the site if you sign up with a username and password. There is a quiz assessment section that lets you practice skills for math, science, and language arts. Also, registered users can get detailed feedback for writing assignments such as essays and resumes in 24 hours. You can also keep a list of your favorite tutors.
You can also download the Tutor.com to go app for iOS (iPad, iPhone) and Android and get homework help on the move. To use the Tutor.com to go app, you will need to set up an account on the Homework Louisiana site. Then you can sign in using that username and password on the app.
Even when live tutors are not available, students can still access the SkillsCenter Resource Library. The Resource Library contains information on studying, test preparation, and careers through a variety of worksheets, lessons, and videos.
Learning Express Library is another great resource available with your library card. You can access this platform from the State Library Database page: http://lalibcon.state.lib.la.us/
Search for Learning Express Library under “Statewide Databases” on the right-hand side of the page.
Learning Express Library contains practice tests, tutorials, and ebooks to help you study for exams, prepare for a career, or help you earn a certification. The site includes an area for Career Preparation, a High School Equivalency Test Center for the Hi-SET, College Admissions Center for the ACT, SAT, and essay writing, and an education center for high school students, college students, and adults. There is also a learning area in Spanish.
Learn business, technology, and marketable skills to up your career on Lynda.com! This new resource available from Shreve Memorial Library is for adult patrons and can help you learn new skills and add them to your LinkedIn profile.
