September is Library Card Sign-up Month, a time when Shreve Memorial Library joins the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries nationwide to remind parents, caregivers and students that signing up for a library card is the first step on the path to academic achievement and lifelong learning.
This year, ALA has partnered with DC’s Wonder Woman as Library Card Sign-up Month Honorary Chair. Her mission is to champion the power of a library card. In her new role, Wonder Woman will promote the value of libraries and encourage everyone to get a library card. Throughout the month, Shreve Memorial Library likewise, will encourage everyone to sign up for or renew their library cards. Library Card Sign-up Month is held in September to mark the beginning of the new school year. ALA and libraries nationwide unite in a national effort to ensure every child signs up for their own library card.There is nothing more empowering than signing up for a library card, and with a Shreve Memorial Library card, patrons gain free access to books, eBooks, DVDs, technology, media resources, educational programs, homework help, and much more. A library card gives students the tools to succeed in the classroom and provide people of all ages opportunities to pursue their dreams and passions.Libraries nationwide offer everything from early literacy programs to virtual homework help and GED classes, helping transform lives and communities through education. Shreve Memorial Library is excited to offer library cardholders the ability to renew their library card privileges both online and in person. The online card renewal service is available for adult, juvenile, and YA library card types.
