Shreve Memorial Library celebrates the excitement of the fall season with fall-themed story times for children, and arts and crafts for teens and adults. Programs will take place at several Shreve Memorial Library Branches throughout the month of October. Registration is required to attend all Shreve Memorial Library programs and participants must adhere to the CDC and state mask mandate.
The Fall-themed story time programs for children are designed to help in the development of babies and preschoolers, preparing them to learn to read. During the interactive early literacy programs, children will listen to stories, sing along with music, action rhymes, dance, and have figure puppet play time. Special fall-themed story times will take place at the Atkins Branch, 3704 Greenwood Road, on Thursdays, October 7 and October 14, at 10:00 a.m. The Mooretown Branch, 4360 Hollywood Avenue, will also host a special fall story time on Thursday, October 14 at 10:00 a.m., and the North Shreveport, 4844 North Market Street, will have a very special pumpkin themed story time on Tuesday, October 19 at 10:30 a.m. Additional story time programs will take place at Shreve Memorial Library branches throughout Caddo Parish.
Teens are invited to get crafty this fall. On Thursday, October 14, teens at the Wallette Branch will make Indian Corn Crafts from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The program will take place in the meeting room at the branch, located at 363 Hearne Avenue. Then on Friday, October 15, homeschoolers are invited to take part in fall canvas painting at the North Shreveport Branch. Students will create an October moonscape painting on canvas with black cats. The program will take place in the meeting room at the branch, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Supplies are provided.
Adults are also encouraged to get in on the creativity. On Tuesday, October 19, at 2:00 p.m., adults may join “Crafternoon: Autumn Composition Journal” at the Hamilton/South Caddo Branch or join a fall wreath making session at the Rodessa Branch. At the Hamilton/South Caddo Branch, located at 2111 Bert Kouns Industrial Loop, program attendees will embellish an ordinary composition notebook into a one-of-a-kind journal, decorated with autumn themed scrapbook paper and trim. Participants at the Rodessa Branch, located at 10093 Main Street in Rodessa, will make fall wreaths. Patrons may bring additional items to add to their wreaths to make them unique. All materials for both craft programs are provided.
Just in time for fall decorating, the David Raines Branch is offering a DIY Toilet Paper Pumpkin craft for adults on Thursday, October 21. It is the perfect project to help complete your fall décor. The program will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. The craft consists of toilet paper, fall fabric, ribbon and cinnamon sticks. All materials are provided. The craft session will take place in the meeting room at the branch located at 2855 Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive.
Adults can also wind down, relax and reduce stress while coloring a fall themed coloring page at the Atkins Branch. On October 23, adults are invited to come and color all day from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Participants will color fall-themed coloring pages to frame and enjoy.
Registration, face masks and social distancing are required for all Shreve Memorial Library programs, and supplies for all paint, coloring and crafts programs are provided. Everyone is encouraged to participate.
