    Speaker: Dr Thomas DuBose, “Elementals and Revenants and Shape-Shifters, Oh, My!: Three Persistent Tropes in Ark-La-Tex Folklore”

    Dr DuBose has been teaching English at LSUS for 28 years. His Ph.D. is a hybrid degree (English and Linguistics) from the University of Texas at Austin.

    This talk reviews three folkloric archetypes that occur prominently in folklore from the three-state area: elementals and their modern counterparts, UFO aliens; revenants such as ghosts and vampires; and loups-garous (werewolves).

    Speaker: Lucy Medvec: “The History of the Strand Theater”

    Lucy Medvec is the current National Director of Membership and Development for the American Rose Society headquartered in Shreveport, Louisiana. With over 27 years in nonprofit experience, she is passionate about the arts and life in our community. She is currently working on her thesis in the Master of Liberal Arts program at LSU-Shreveport and in her spare time is an avid reader of all literary genres.

    Are you or someone you know struggling with alcohol or substance addiction? Young People in Recovery along with Shreve Memorial Library Cedar Grove/ Line Ave. Branch will host Young People in Recovery Meetings every other Thursday from 5:00 PM -6:00 PM. YPR-Shreveport chapter engages young people in seeking recovery and their allies in communities across the country to take a stand for recovery. The Shreveport Chapter supports young people in seeking recovery by empowering them to obtain stable employment, secure suitable housing, and continue and complete their educations. The Shreveport Chapter also advocates on the local and state levels for better accessibility of these services and other effective recovery resources. This program is free and open to the public.
